My Brompton

A Milestone. Of Sorts.

I headed out yesterday morning, before a busy day began, intending to knock off a couple of errands, and, not incidentally, complete my first 200 miles (nearly 322 km)  on Basil.

However, it seems that I was a little sloppy with the math. When I got home, my total recorded mileage for date was at 199.99.  So near, and yet not there. Or, at least not there officiallly.

7 AM. Frost on the grass. Shopping finished.

Of course, I failed to “resume” more than once when I first got my GPS, so Basil and I have actually cycled somewhat over 200 miles together, but it sure would have been nice to see that figure on my GPS report today.  The recorded stats seem so much more valid, somehow.

I doubt it’s going to be a problem to make up that missing .01 mile.  But still . . . the champagne is on hold, at least until later today.

Congratulations (almost)! Any first impressions you’d like to share? Is Basil currently your only ride or does another share the duties? As I stated in an earlier post, I’m awaiting delivery of my own B; am currently busy gleaning info from others’ experience. Presently I ride a very heavy Dutch bike (Workcycles Oma) and anticipate there’ll be quite a difference in my riding habits, as I now pick and choose my routes extremely carefully (I must go NOwhere that I cannot return by the same method; I cannot lift the bike into a car, should I need to be rescued…).

Thanks for the (almost!) congrats, Seattle Rider! Basil isn’t my only cycle, but he seems to be the only one I ride . . . it’s just too easy to slip out the door with him, compared to making another choice. I’ll have to think about these first couple of hundred miles a bit more; all I can say immediately is that riding my Brompton has become a rather seamless, organic process. We just go! Now I can’t imagine life without Basil — and his (relatively) light weight and compact fold (combined with an excellent ride) have made a huge difference in my cycling life.
