Stream and Bamboo

Back on our home turf, Basil and I took a short ride with Mr. Diarist  under a darkening sky, next to one of our lush stream beds:

The draped vine made this view look almost Southern, and made me think of cypress swamps:

Bamboo is flourishing on one side of this waterway.  It’s beautiful stuff, but tremendously invasive, and hard to control.

This variety has obviously adapted well to the Mid-Atlantic climate.

There’s a peculiar little pedestrian bridge that crosses the stream here — there may be a park on the other side, but Basil settled merely for ascending the steps, on this particular day, and we went off exploring in a different direction.

We usually only get to see Basil’s left side. Is there a problem or blemish that is being kept from the immediate world?

Actually, if we saw his “business”/drive train side with greater frequency one of your keen-eyed followers may have even noticed a dangling gear changer chain….just sayin’.

I’m sure you’re right, Saul, about the folly of only showing only the one side. Undoubtedly one of Basil’s vigilant defenders would have caught this particular difficulty where his own cyclist failed to!

Actually, after this little episode, I wondered, too, why it’s only Basil’s left side that gets photographed. The next time we went out, I realized that it’s because his unaccessorized right grip makes a much more stable resting point than the left grip, to which his mirror is attached.

On a ride, I’d have to fold the mirror in (and then out again) if I made a point of capturing his (unflawed — honest!) left side. Nonetheless, I’ll be doing this on occasion, if only so that I can go over the photos microscopically!
