It wasn’t much of an outing, but Basil went to physical therapy with me the other day. The idea was to make sure that the geometry of cycling on my Brompton coincided appropriately with the geometry my body needs to function well.
Basil checked in with me at the front desk, and then fit neatly under a table in the office until it was time for his turn.
His seat angle needs a bit of tweaking to optimize the configuration, and there may be an H handlebar in our future, but, for now — or, more accurately, for when I can ride again in six months or so — this small change should prove effective.
It made me unreasonably happy just to see Basil out of his closet and into the wide world once again — even though we weren’t going to be taking off together. The resumption of our former, wonderful, life can’t happen soon enough . . .

Consider the increased muscular development if you take Basil with you wherever you go. it will be good for both of you, and one can only imagine your guns (upper arm strength) in 6 mos.
This sounds like a great argument for a sibling for Basil, Saul — one Brompton under each arm!
Symmetry is nice, when appropriate.
So much more comfortable carrying 2 folded Bromptons, 1 in each hand & with the bars to the outside (ie than the balance & effort for carrying just one). Of course, don’t leave home carrying two Bromptons unless you take a rider with you, for when the Bromptons get unfolded.
Amusing fitness advice, Ian, and a nice twist on that old advert: “Don’t leave home without [two]!” (My aplogies for picking up on this so tardily; life, interferring, here.)
I hope you and Basil are back on the road soon! Thanks for this excellent blog; I just read your posts about the Five Boro Bike Tour, which helped encourage me to join in next year. Maggie (my beloved black M3L) and I will wave if we see you.
A belated thanks, Cathy, for your good wishes and kind words. That’s terrific news about the Five Boro — it’s a great adventure — Basil and I will watch for you and Maggie if we’re fortunate enough to be able to do it again next year!
Saul saw some of Basil’s Brompton buddies bicycling on bike path passing pedestrians pets and pigeons.
Adventurous alliteration by Saul, seeing cyclists sailing by!
Thousand thanks tho thou is thoroughly thoughtful
